THE Doveton Eagles have adopted blue, yellow and white as their new colours, with the club purchasing new jumpers for the run home to the finals.
Replacing the predominantly brown and yellow strip, it was decided the jumpers could use a “sprucing up” and Eagles coach Paul Davis said it helps freshen up the club and distances them from the issues of the past.
“This year with everything that happened, we wanted to start fresh – we’re not forgetting our past, we’ve had some good history here at the club and everything’s brighter in the future and we wanted to change things,” Davis said.
“We don’t want to forget about the history of the club and don’t want to put it all behind us, but in the last few years there have been a few things we want to get away from and the stigma of what people have perceived about the Doveton Eagles.
“This year has been fantastic – we’ve had no issues on or off the field – so hopefully this is a beginning for everything and it keeps going that way.”
The Eagles are holding a Family Fun Day at Power Reserve on Saturday, with jumping castles and face painting keeping the kids happy while the team, in its new strip, takes on Hallam in one of the SFL’s cross-town clashes in Division 3. The match starts at 2pm.
In the other local SFL Division 3 match, Endeavour Hills travels to Lyndale.
