Stop speeding hoons

ENDEAVOUR HILLS resident Murray McGregor has had enough.
Each day, and night, he sees and hears cars tearing up his street paying no attention to the speed limits or primary schools nearby.
“I am sick and tired of these hoons using my street as a racetrack,” Mr McGregor said.
“We get cars burning up here any time of the day or night and I’m worried there is going to be an accident before anything is done to stop it.”
Mr McGregor said he had contacted police on a number of occasions, but personally believed a visual police presence was needed to get the message through.
He said looking out his window each day he could count a large number of cars not obeying the speed limit along Daniel Solander Drive and other nearby streets.
“I’ve called the Traffic Management Unit (TMU) many times, but nothing has been done,” he said.
“It is a real concern for me, we have many children walking to and from school – what if something happens to one of those kids?”
Mr McGregor said speeding drivers were an issue all around Endeavour Hills, with many cars tailgating those who obey the speed limit.
“I drove down Daniel Solander Drive last week and was sitting on 40 kilometres per hour outside the school and someone was right up the back of me,” he said.
“They just rip up and down the street; with the bend it’s just so unsafe.”
He called on the police to have a greater presence in the area to stop the hoons.
Officer in charge of the Casey and Cardinia Highway Patrol, Senior Sergeant John Felton, said a number of hoon type driving reports have been received recently.
“This is unfortunate as we know this type of behaviour is often extremely dangerous,” Sen Sgt Felton said.
“Daniel Solander Drive and a number of other roads in Endeavour Hills receive our attention and this will be ongoing.
“To this end we will continue with overt and covert response to these issues with support from local police and in partnership with the City of Casey.”
He said residents of Endeavour Hills and elsewhere in Casey can be assured police will continue targeting hoon behaviour.
