IT’S not too often a resident stands up to applaud the council – but that’s just what Anthony Dissanayake wants to do.
After three heavy rains in 2012, Mr Dissanayake said there had been some serious flooding of Brentwood Reserve which affected nearby houses.
“During the last big rain it flooded again, so badly it washed onto my property and even flooded my pool,” he said.
“It cracked the concrete around my house too.”
Mr Dissanayake contacted the council and was told it would take four to six weeks before officers could fix the problem.
“I thought four to six weeks? It could happen again, and be worse,” he said.
“So I sent a letter to Mayor Sam Aziz telling him about what was happening, and in two days there were council crews here fixing the reserve.”
Mr Dissanayake said he was so pleased to see the council come to action so quickly.
“You always hear bad things about how the council hasn’t done this or that,” he said.
“But I was really pleased with the way they reacted to my predicament. Now we just have to see if the problem is fixed next time it rains heavily.”
