Games bring gongs

BRENTWOOD Park Primary School in Berwick has received a State Government award in recognition of its dedication to cultural diversity.
Last week the Minister Assisting the Premier on Multicultural Affairs, John Pandazopoulos, presented awards to winners of the Cultural Diversity Quest competition at Melbourne’s Immigration Museum.
Students in Grade 3VK were named equal first prizewinners for their Learning and Growing Together game.
Krystallyn Jurss, Caitlin Williams and Georgia Blackney received a special mention for their Respectful spiral game, while Jonathon Cross, Luke Anderson and Brayden Van Loo received a special mention for their Respect game.
Mr Pandazopoulos said the awards were an opportunity for Victoria’s school students to explore what living in a multicultural community meant.
“The Quest Awards encourage students to explore, express and celebrate Victoria’s cultural and religious diversity through art, design, photography, computer technology and music.
“It is especially important to celebrate our differences with young people who are our future leaders,” Mr Pandazopoulos said.
The awards are a shared initiative of SBS Melbourne, the Department of Education and Training and the Victorian Multicultural Commission, (VMC).
Now in their third year, they are among more than 300 events marking Celebrate Cultural Diversity Week.
