FOUNTAIN Gate Christian Centre senior minister Rob Ward said it seemed that the old stories never grow old.
He said they were just dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
Mr Ward is guiding the centre’s young adults group in a retelling of the classic story ‘The Prodigal Son’ where the big brother gets dirty on the rebellious younger brother as he returns from frittering his inheritance.
Mr Ward said that in this modern adaptation, skilfully written by a collaborative team led by primary school teacher Liz Rout, the father’s business becomes a multinational hitech company while the pig pen transmogrifies into living on the streets as a bum.
However the essence of the tale, the father’s love for all his children, remains as clear as ever.
“Following on from the highly regarded presentation of ‘The Angels Story’ at Easter and the very moving Anzac day tribute, this modern day prodigal is sure to grab the attention of all who take the opportunity to see it.”
The drama will be performed at Fountain Gate Christian Centre, 23 Melverton Drive Hallam, at 6pm on Saturday, 3 September and at 10am on Sunday, 4 September.
