United wins after scare

THE Endeavour United Soccer Club survived an early scare to eventually defeat Nunawading 3-2 in an action-packed South-Eastern State League 3 match.
Nunawading scored less than five minutes into the game, but Endeavour Hills was able to equalise after talented striker Muhammed Kirmaci took advantage of a goalkeeper’s mistake and slammed the ball into the net. Wanting to impress the home crowd, United pressured the Nunawading defence into mistakes and the breakthrough came when Obeth Baheerathan crossed a ball to Ted Ithier, who shot past the goalkeeper.
The sealer came after a penalty was awarded to United and subsequently converted by Ithier. The free shot came after a Nunawading player tackled from behind and was sent from the field by a referee holding a red card.
A penalty goal by Nunawading made the score a respectable 3-2 but it was too little too late.
United now sits fourth on the ladder, but a test is looming this Saturday against the third-placed Heatherton at Parkfield Reserve on Dunblane Road, Noble Park this Saturday.
Coach Carlos Retre is urging all United supporters to attend the match and help the team get over the line.
“It will be a cracking game of soccer,” he said.
“If everyone comes down, the support gives us a 12th man on the field.”
