IT WILL be a case of first come, first served on Saturday when more than 13,000 doughnuts go on sale in Hallam to help raise funds for a local sporting reserve.
From 10am, the Hallam Recreation Reserve Committee will host an exclusive sale of Krispy Kreme doughnuts in a bid to raise $14,000 for a much-needed new scoreboard.
The sale of the glazed doughnuts comes prior to the opening of the company’s first Victorian store at Westfield Fountain Gate on Thursday, 22 June.
The Hallam Recreation Reserve fundraising activity will be one of the first occasions for the community to purchase Krispy Kreme doughnuts while assisting the worthy cause.
The doughnuts will be sold at $13 for a dozen, and president of the Hallam Recreation Reserve’s committee of management, Attila Siposs, said they were expecting a big turnout.
He said the fundraising sale had attracted interest across the country, with one doughnut fan even wanting some of the glazed doughnuts posted to Queensland.
“We have had inquiries from one woman from Sunbury wanting to pre-purchase six boxes and we have had another call from someone in Templestowe.
“We are fully expecting to see people lining up from 6am so they do not miss out,” he said.
Mr Siposs said a new scoreboard was needed and would benefit three sporting clubs that call the ground home, and any other community groups or schools wishing to use the oval.
Krispy Kreme’s marketing manager, Mark Gilbert, said the company were thrilled to be invited to help the local community with such a worthwhile cause.
“We plan to sell 1100 dozen Krispy Kreme original glazed doughnuts to contribute funds to this worthwhile cause, and the response so far has been extraordinary.
“Krispy Kreme is committed to supporting non-for-profit groups in the City of Casey area, and this is a great way for us to start building that important local relationship,” Mr Gilbert said.
The Hallam Recreation Reserve is located at 118-126 Frawley Road, Hallam.
