Internet porno ban plan

A political party wants to prevent children from viewing pornography on computers by introducing special filters. Family First this week released a statement saying it was lobbying the Federal Government to filter pornographic content from Australian computers after a report to Parliament two years ago said such a block was feasible.
The party’s move to quash pornographic content from the screens of Australian youngsters is being tagged as a child protection issue, with adults still permitted to view the content if they wish.
In a statement the party said: “As parents, we want a safe internet environment for our kids.
“The best way to do that is to ban internet pornography while allowing adults who want it, to ‘opt in’ and access it.”
The filtering software would be installed on the internet service provider’s server.
“We know we have to let our kids roam the internet for study,” the party statement says, “yet we can’t be watching over their shoulders all the time to monitor what they are seeing.”
