Craig flies to Ascot

-Brad Kingsbury
STAR jockey Craig Williams will travel to England later this week to ride at the world-famous Royal Ascot racing carnival.
The Cranbourne born and bred hoop, whose father Alan is a well-known and successful local trainer, is leading the Melbourne metropolitan jockey’s premiership and will leave for London after completing his commitments at Saturday’s Sandown meeting.
He will compete at the four-day carnival that starts next Tuesday, in which he rode four winners during 2001, and said he is looking forward to the challenge.
“I had one of my first big wins at Royal Ascot and it is always a big event,” he said. “My agent has already set up a number of rides for me and it will be great to return to England after spending almost three seasons there before.”
Williams said he also hoped to renew his association with British trainer Mick Shannon who was one of his main supporters in his previous stint in the country.
