Doughnut fans brave the cold

By Rebecca Fraser
IN SCENES reminiscent of a rock concert, doughnut fans were expected to camp out last night in the lead up to today’s official opening of Krispy Kremes in Narre Warren.
The store will be a first for Victoria, but openings in New South Wales have seen sweet tooths sleep overnight in a bid to be among the first in line.
Others have flown and driven from interstate to be a part of the doughnut action.
Krispy Kremes catered to the possible crowds last night by erecting a marquee with heating, serving hot drinks, and organising an MC, live bands, films, games, karaoke and trivial pursuit competitions.
Australian pop singer Kate Alexia, as well as an Elvis impersonator and Australia’s Number One National Air Guitar Champion (seventh in the world) were also set to keep the crowds entertained along with local band Arpejio.
The store was set to open its doors from 6.30am today following a 10-second countdown.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford was then scheduled to officially open the store with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9.30am, followed by entertainment from local band Fireunderground, face painting, cheerleaders and live radio broadcasts.
Last Saturday, some people enjoyed a sneak peak at the store during an invitation only VIP event.
The Narre Warren store has created 120 local jobs and will feature a 24-hour drive through and will be able to produce more than 270 dozen doughnuts per hour.
