Inspired by genius

AFL legend Tom Hafey inspired many children and parents last week when he made a special visit to Swimland swimming school’s presentation night in Hampton Park.
Hafey had a special message to swimmers from both the Narre Warren and Hampton Park swim schools and spoke of the importance of never giving up.
More than 250 awards including trophies, certificates and medals, were handed out to 100 local swimmers.
The Australian Rules champion coached 522 games during his career, a feat only exceeded by three others.
Hafey said although he had been knocked down many times in the tough world of coaching his strong belief in himself was what kept him going.
The four times Richmond premiership coach also had a special message for parents.
“You are role-models for your children.
“Never underestimate the influence you have on your kids and the importance of teaching them physical discipline through involvement in sport,” he said.
The inspirational 75-year-old Hafey practises what he preaches and left the crowd of parents and children in awe of his passion for fitness.
Hafey still gets up early every morning for an eight-km run followed by a swim in Port Phillip Bay and then 600 sit-ups and push-ups.
