Rolling car drags man along

AN ENDEAVOUR Hills man had a lucky escape last week when a car rolled down a driveway, catching him underneath.
The man, aged in his 20s, had been standing behind the car and was attempting to push it up the driveway of the Hutchins Avenue home when it rolled.
Senior Constable John Diamond of Casey Traffic Management Unit said the car had a flat battery and had been parked two-thirds of the way up the sloped driveway.
He said a woman had been standing partly inside the car and had released her foot from the brake so the car could be pushed up the rest of the driveway.
Instead the car rolled backwards and, before the woman could place her foot back on the brake, it had rolled down into the street, dragging the man underneath.
Sen Const Diamond said neighbours were quick to come outside and help move the car off the man and call an ambulance.
He was later taken to Dandenong Hospital with minor injuries and the woman sustained grazes.
Sen Const Diamond said it was lucky that the man did not have more serious injuries such as having his head or chest crushed underneath the car.
“He is lucky that he did not get caught under the bumper bar when the car rolled down to the footpath and the ground flattened,” he said.
