Doves bounce back

DOVETON seniors came back from the previous week’s loss with a solid 22-point win against Berwick on Saturday.
The Doves started well, kicking six goals to Berwick’s two and with hard running and physicality continued this pressure into the second quarter.
The Doves slacked off in the third and gave Berwick a chance of pinching an away win, but held on and proved to be the superior side.
Robbie Hughes set the tone early in the game with some hard hits and supreme skill. His delivery to the likes of Ryan Hendy who finished with four goals and Ryan Brown was the catalyst for the Doves.
In defence Shannon Clarke played a solid game, along with Peter Greenstreet and Brad Downe.
Scores: Doveton 17.11.113 d Berwick 14.7.91.

Berwick started slowly, allowing fourth-placed Berwick to take a four-goal lead into half-time.
A half-time scuffle added some fire to the game and the second half saw some hard and tough football.
Unfortunately the Doves were unable to come back from their slow start and went down by 27 points.
Full-forward Pete Dye took his season tally to 45 with two goals, along with Willy Lamarca who also finished with two.
Dale Camm was best for the Doves, providing a strong contest at centre half-back. He was well assisted by Scott Musgrove who gave the Doves good rebound from the defensive 50.
Scores: Doveton 7.8.56 lost to Berwick 11.11.77.

The thirds aimed to go a game clear of fourth spot with a win over Berwick and they did with a hard-fought 26-point victory.
The Doves led at every break and consistently extended their lead, even though pushed by a determined Berwick team.
Ryan Pearson returned from senior duties and was best for the Doves kicking six goals and showing his class in the midfield.
Adrian Barnett also played a great game giving the Doves plenty of run and good delivery out of defence.
Up forward Matt Stocco was the key, presenting well all game and winning the ball at ground level.
Scores: Doveton 10.10.70 d Berwick 6.8.44.
