Police freeway clampdown

CASEY Dandenong police have helped slap motorists with more than 100 fines in the first week of a crackdown on Monash Freeway drivers.
Operation Linker began last week with a strong warning from Victoria Police notifying drivers that officers would step up patrols along the freeway that starts in Beaconsfield and ends in Melbourne.
Victoria Police said the combined regional effort has nabbed drivers for more than 100 traffic-related offences including drink-driving, unroadworthy vehicles, not wearing seatbelts and driving in the right hand lane when not overtaking.
One driver gave police a false name, two drivers have not displayed P-Plates and police automatically suspended the licences of 11 drivers for speeding at more than 25km/h over the limit.
Region four assistant commissioner Bob Hastings said police were disappointed by the number of offences after publicising the operation. “Police will continue to be out in force along the Monash Freeway and the message is clear, if you do the wrong thing, you will be caught,” he said.
