CASEY parents potentially saved a bundle last Friday when they took advantage of free child restraint checks in Narre Warren.
Local parents flocked to Westfield Fountain Gate with their car, child seats and children in tow to have their car seats checked during the four-hour session.
The City of Casey, SafeStart and Road Safe also supported the initiative, with mobile fitting service Littles Child Restraints conducting the safety checks and ensuring the children’s car seats were securely fitted.
Recent surveys show 69 per cent of all restraints inspected were incorrectly fitted, and of these 25 per cent put the child at risk of death or serious injury in the event of an accident.
According to local hospital admissions and emergency department date, transport injuries are the fifth most common type of injuries among zero to eight-year-olds, most of which are preventable.
