Books mark milestone

FIRST birthdays are a big cause for celebration in Doveton, with local children receiving beautiful books to mark the milestone.
The super package comes with the good wishes of the folks at Doveton North’s Family Resource Centre — and its Let’s Read program.
Jeanette Miller, co-ordinator of the Doveton Early Years Project, said the initiative was supported by the South East Family Services, Doveton Baptist Benevolent Society, Southern Health and the Doveton Neighborhood Renewal program.
The Let’s Read program gave every pre-school child in Doveton the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of books before they began a formal education.
“Distribution of the books is used as a tool to connect families with community services, and parents can collect most of their child’s book packs from the Maternal and Child Health Nurse,” she said.
Ms Miller said regular birthday parties were given for all Doveton babies hitting the big Number One, as a fun way of distributing the 12-month present.
“It’s a great opportunity for parents to connect with each other, and for the babies to have fun with local babies of their own age,” she said.
Two parties were held this year at the Doveton North Family Resource Centre, in the Doveton North Primary School, and Jeanette Miller, on 9701 3456, will be happy to answer inquiries about the next on 12 October.
