ENVIRONMENTAL volunteer group Friends of Frog Hollow is calling on local residents to volunteer a green thumb for its National Tree Day tree planting event to be held at Gunns Road Reserve in Hallam on Sunday 30 July.
In 2005 the event attracted more than 60 participants who planted 1200 native trees and shrubs.
This year the event will move to the south side of the creek, at Gunns Road Reserve (Melways Map 91-H10) from 10am to 1pm. Entry is from the council car park on Gunns Road.
Casey manager environmental services David Richardson said the Friends of Frog Hollow had shown an ongoing commitment to the Hallam area.
“I encourage all local residents to come along, take part and make a positive impact on our natural environment.
“The planting event will have a great community atmosphere, so bring along the family and have a fun and productive day in our beautiful local environment,” Mr Richardson said.
Volunteers do not need a green thumb, just a pair of gardening gloves and some sturdy shoes.
The group will provide tools, and the Endeavour Hills Lions Club will provide a free sausage in bread and a drink to all registered participants.
The City of Casey is supplying the plants, guards, stakes and other equipment as part of the Growing a Green Web program, which facilitates the planting of 20,000 trees and shrubs across Casey each year.
