Dog petition takes the lead

RESIDENTS have unleashed concerns about dogs being walked without restraint on a Doveton reserve.
Doveton resident Shirley Reid led a petition which was presented to Casey Council on Tuesday night calling for Kevin Adlard Reserve to be designated an on-leash area.
Nine residents have signed the petition. An attached letter stated the signatories wanted to express their concern about dogs running loose at the reserve.
“Although there are a number of reserves in the municipality designated as on-leash area, the undersigned want the City of Casey to include Adlard Reserve as an on-leash area,” the letter said. “We are well aware of the serious injuries that result from dog attack.”
The reserve includes a BMX track, a play area and a bike path.
In the letter, Ms Reid said people needed to be confident that they were safe when enjoying the benefits of the reserve.
The letter also told how, on two occasions, her dog, which she had on a leash, had been attacked by other dogs which were running free.
Councillor Wayne Smith presented the petition to the council at Tuesday night’s meeting.
Council officers will now write a report which will be presented to the council at a later date.
