Clever kids spell it out

THERE was a buzz of excitement in Narre Warren last month when students from 13 local schools competed in a spelling bee.
Hosted by Westfield Fountain Gate, the spelling bee gave schools a chance to earn bonus points as part of the annual Shop for Your Schools campaign.
Each school that took part received 1000 bonus points for their efforts.
Maramba Primary School in Narre Warren came first and was awarded 500 bonus points, Thomas Mitchell Primary School in Endeavour Hills cam second and won 300 bonus points and Heritage College in Narre Warren South came third, and won 150 bonus points.
The Shop For the School campaign gives schools the chance to share in $2.4 million worth of educational technology including printers, digital camera and electronic white boards.
Schools collect Westfield receipts and shoppers receive one point for every $1 they spend for their chosen school.
This year, there is also a national prize where one lucky school can win a school makeover by Channel 7’s Better Homes and Gardens, with the entire team coming out to the winning school.
Better Homes and Gardens team members Tara Dennis and Jason Hodges visited Fountain Gate to help conduct the spelling competition.
The campaign finishes this Sunday 6 August with the last opportunity to upload shopping dockets at 5pm.
The closing ceremony will then be held at 11am on Wednesday 23 August where the winner will be announced, followed by an interactive circus workshop.
