Injured Doves dominate

DOVETON seniors, despite being undermanned by injuries, still accounted for Keysborough by 70 points on Saturday in Casey-Cardinia League action.
The Doves started well, but had no enthusiasm in their play.
Coach Steve Henwood asked the players to lift and they did this with a very strong second half.
The Doves kicked five and nine goals in the third and fourth quarters and were strong in defence.
Stand-in captain David George put in a great second-half performance up forward and finished with five goals, he was well aided by Ryan Brown who finished with three.
Dave Welling was best on ground, giving the Doves great drive out of defence and into attack, and kicking four goals.
Scores: Doveton 22.16.148 d Keysborough 11.12.78.

The Doves proved too strong in defence for Keysborough and this showed in a 106 point win.
The game started slowly, but after quarter time the Doves lifted the tempo with consecutive quarters of seven goals.
In the final term the Doves relaxed and allowed Keysborough to get a couple of consolation goals, but were still comfortable winners.
Michael Rodriquez played an excellent game on-ball and up forward, setting up plenty of goals and kicking three himself.
Scott Musgrove gave the Doves good run out of the backline and played four solid quarters.
Up forward there was plenty of options, but Pete Dye proved to be the danger man again finishing with four goals.
Scores: Doveton 20.20.140 d Keysborough 5.4.34.

In the previous three weeks the thirds had played three top-five sides and were happy to come away with a comfortable 82-point win against Keysborough.
Like the seconds, the young Doves were too strong in defence and had too much firepower up forward, with Daniel Zajac kicking six goals and Michael Lazyck four.
Lazyck was best on ground with more than 30 disposals and was excellent around the stoppages.
Nick Paynter played a similar game and showed his hardness and want for the ball, splitting open several packs and laying some hard tackles.
In defence, Gavin Lees and Daniel Bianco played solid games taking many marks and being very disciplined with their spoils.
Scores: 15.15.105 d Keysborough 3.5.23.
