Narre Warren’s Sally Norris has shaved her head for the Leukaemia Foundation.
A CLOSE friend’s diagnosis with cancer has prompted a Narre Warren woman to shave her head for charity.
Last Thursday, 23-year-old Sally Norris parted with her long locks and raised more than $2000 for the Leukaemia Foundation.
More than 100 people, including many close family and friends, turned out to watch the head shave.
Ms Norris had tied her hair into 13 sections with a different person lopping off each ponytail.
The person who donated the most money then used the clippers to shave the rest of her hair.
Ms Norris said she would probably sell her hair to a wig maker and also donate those funds.
She said a close family friend’s plight with cancer had driven her to organise the head shave.
Ms Norris visited her friend in hospital on Saturday to share her new look.
She said she was getting used to her changed hairstyle.
“In a way I just wanted to show her what she means to us. I feel proud because I know I have done this for a good cause,” Ms Norris said.
“It took me a good hour and a half before I would look at it in the mirror. I stood there for five minutes and then thought, ‘Hey, that’s not bad’”.
Ms Norris said she would definitely shave her head again for a good cause and urged others to do the same.
“It means so much more when you are doing it for a personal reason.
“Now when I go out I feel more confident than when I had long hair. I think that is because I know I have done this for a good cause,” she said.
