Call for more footy crowd parking

RECORD crowds at local football venues have prompted Casey’s deputy mayor to call for more parking at a Narre Warren North sports reserve.
Councillor Rob Wilson has called for officers to investigate and report to the council on the need for overflow car parking at Kalora Park on football days.
The report would consider the possible redesigning of the proposed car park when sealed, and the possibility of creating a crushed rock car park on the south side road reserve opposite Fox Road, where Kalora Park is located.
Since former South West Gippsland football league rivals joined together in 2005 to form the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League Casey-Cardinia League, crowds have increased dramatically, creating pressure on local sports facilities.
Cr Wilson said no standing zones had recently been introduced along Fox Road and many spectators were parking in McKenzie Lane.
He said since the appointment of high-profile coach Aussie Jones at the Narre Warren Football Club, crowds had continued to surge.
Cr Wilson said the crowds at the reserve were “quite phenomenal” and the parking shortage needed to be addressed.
He said he believed there was enough land on the south side of Fox Road for a crushed rock car park.
A report will come back to the council within the next two months.
