THE Hallam Main Drain Trail will be expanded as part of a $1 million injection into Melbourne’s off-road trail network.
Premier Steve Bracks braved bitterly cold rain to make the announcement at the Narre Warren South Heritage Wetlands just off Centre Road on Thursday 3 August.
Mr Bracks said the track was designed for use by cyclists, walkers, joggers and in-line skaters.
He said the trail network would provide Victorians with increased recreational opportunities while promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford said Casey Council was a strong supporter of the trail network. He said the Bracks Government had provided $500,000 to help build the criterium track at Casey Fields.
“This shows what can be achieved by partnerships between the council and governments,” he said.
Mr Bracks said Melburnians were using the trails in large numbers and that the investment was important at a time of high petrol prices.
Narre Warren South MP Dale Wilson said the network extension would allow residents to enjoy the beautiful parks near the Narre Warren Cranbourne Road by walking, cycling, pushing a pram or jogging around the parklands.
