Council bounces basketball plea

By Sarah Schwager
THE City of Casey is lobbying both the State Government and the Opposition for funding to build basketball facilities at Timbarra.
Council is asking for a $500,000 grant, separate from the Sports and Recreation Victoria program, to help set up the facility.
The whole project at Timbarra is expected to cost $8 million.
Deputy mayor Rob Wilson said the best time to request funding from the Government was in the lead up to the State election.
“There are heaps of young people in other wards that are affected as well,” Cr Wilson said.
“Plenty of people are utilising this facility. We don’t want to wait another four years for this to happen. The kids will have grown up by then.”
The proposed Timbarra development would be situated at Parkhill Drive, Berwick, adjacent to Timbarra Primary School, and would help service Narre Warren and surrounding communities.
The motion was carried, with councillors deciding to send a funding submission to the State Government and Opposition and forward a copy of the submission to the appropriate minister, shadow minister, Narre Warren North MP Luke Donellan and other candidates for the Narre Warren North electorate.
