CITY of Casey’s Myuna Farm in Doveton has had a couple of new arrivals this spring, with resident goat and ‘media darling’ Myrtle having surprise twins.
Casey mayor Cr Kevin Bradford said staff at the farm were not aware that Myrtle was pregnant and attributed her recent weight gain to her healthy appetite.
It now appears that Myrtle’s talent at opening her own pen, and that of neighbouring goats, may have resulted in the surprise additions to the farm family.
“About 100 visiting students and several families recently witnessed the arrival of the two white, female kids, which goes to show that a visit to Myuna Farm can be full of surprises,” Cr Bradford said.
Myrtle has been with the farm for more than seven years and has appeared on several television shows, ABC documentaries and NOVA FM radio segments in the past.
Cr Bradford encouraged residents to visit Myuna Farm and congratulate Myrtle, see the new alpaca exhibit, and say hello to all the other farm favourites.
The farm attracts more than 60,000 visitors each year, including families, school groups and people attending community events.
Myuna Farm, located at 182 Kidds Road, Doveton, is open Monday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm. For more information contact the farm on 9706 9944.
