Casey leaps to save litres

THE trickle has turned into a stream with thousands of water-wise Casey residents jumping at the chance to help save water.
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan said official figures just released showed a total of 6307 rebates for water-saving products went to residents of Casey between January 2003 and June 2006.
“These water-saving products are saving 33,379 kilolitres of water per year in Casey,” he said.
“This is a magnificent effort and our community should be proud of the progress they have made.”
Mr Donnellan said the State Government had now provided 134,000 rebates to Victorian households, saving more than 1.1 billion litres of water per year.
“Water use in Melbourne is now 22 per cent per person below the 1990s, thanks to rebates and other conservation and recycling measures,” he said.
Casey has claimed about five per cent of total rebates provided.
Narre Warren residents have saved an estimated 9370 kilolitres in water and received a total of 1806 rebates since 2003.
Berwick locals have received 1463 rebates and saved an estimated 7682 kilolitres of water.
Endeavour Hills residents were awarded 687 rebates, Hallam 236, Cranbourne 1461 and Lyndhurst 170.
Products and services included in the rebate scheme are AAA shower roses ($10 rebate), $100 ‘basket’ of water-saving goods, such as drip irrigation systems, tap timers, trigger nozzles, soil moisture and rain sensors for the garden or home ($30).
Other rebates include dual flush toilet ($50), greywater system ($500), rainwater tanks ($150), water audit ($30) and tank-to-toilet connection ($150).
