Drawing on peace message

STUDENTS at an Endeavour Hills Primary school have been busy spreading messages of peace through art.
Southern Cross Primary School was one of many Victorian schools to take part in the Big Draw 2006 last week, a program that promotes drawing and visual arts in Australia.
Students prepared for the Big Draw by exploring the concept of peace and then developed and created symbols that expressed their ideas.
Teaching staff said that working together on these large-scale collaborative artworks had helped students develop important communication and interpersonal skills that were essential in a peaceful society.
On the day students transferred their designs to pavement doing chalk drawings throughout the schoolyard to share their message of peace with the community.
The Big Draw also helped students develop their art skills and use of space as well as their use of scaling and gridding.
The Australian Big Draw is a public program designed to encourage people to participate in a wide range of drawing workshops and events throughout the community.
