LOW-income families in Doveton and Eumemmerring could soon find themselves with more money in the bank following the launch of a new savings initiative.
Doveton has recently been selected to be eligible for Saver Plus, an initiative of the Brotherhood of St Laurence and the ANZ bank which matches every dollar spent towards education, up to a maximum of $1000.
Saver Plus is aimed at helping people and families on low incomes to establish a long-term savings habit, build their financial skills and knowledge and save for education costs.
An information session was held on Monday with interested residents turning out to learn about the exciting new savings initiative.
Participants select an educational product or service they wish to save for as part of the program and agree to a savings routine over a period of time.
To join Saver Plus people must live in Doveton or Eumemmerring, be over 18 years of age, have a child attending a primary or secondary school in 2007 or be attending or returning to vocational education.
People must also have a Health Care or Pension Card and demonstrate that they have a small regular income along with a capacity to save.
Inquiries regarding the program can be made to Dawn Dalgarno at the Brotherhood of St Laurence on 9781 5724.
