Arrows are a sore point

A LACK of arrows in Narre Warren South points to government neglect, an Opposition candidate says.
Narre Warren South Liberal candidate Michael Shepherdson has instigated a petition calling on the State Government to immediately install right-hand turning arrows at a busy intersection.
More than 300 residents have signed the petition demanding the signals where Ormond Road and Littlecroft Avenue cross Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road.
In May Labor announced $64,000 for signals at all four approaches to the crossroad.
But Mr Shepherdson wants to know why there was still no sign of the lights at the intersection which was identified as a dangerous junction by the Government’s own Arrive Alive! campaign.
“Anyone who uses the intersection will know how dangerous it is,” Mr Shepherdson said.
“There have been too many near misses at this intersection and it would be dreadful if an accident was to happen before the Bracks Government acted.”
But Mr Shepherdson’s Labor counterpart Judith Graley was unable to say when VicRoads would undertake the project.
“The Government has allocated money for the traffic lights to go ahead,” she said.
“I have lobbied VicRoads to make sure it happens as quickly as possible.”
But saying it was going to happen was not good enough for Mr Shepherdson.
“We’re going to get rain one day, so does that mean we don’t have to plan for water strategies?” he said.
“This demonstrates the Government doesn’t place as high a priority on safety as it does on spin and PR.”
