Funds for domestic peace

THE City of Casey has welcomed a Federal Government grant that will help promote peace in families and tackle domestic violence within the community.
The funds were granted after council developed a Promoting Peace in Families submission in partnership with Cardinia-Casey Community Health and the Casey Pastors Network.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford thanked the Federal Government for supporting the important safety initiative.
“Family violence has been identified as an issue in the community generally and this funding of around $479,000 over three years enables the City of Casey and its partners, Cardinia Casey Community Health Service and the Casey Pastors Network, to build on the highly successful forum on family violence in July, 2006 to develop local strategies to address this community problem,” Cr Bradford.
Cr Bradford explained Casey’s proposal Promoting Peace in Families would take a proactive stance in the prevention of family violence.
“This project builds upon the skills and strengths of peer educators, faith leaders and community participants to identify and address potential family violence issues and work towards preventing them,” he said.
Cr Bradford said ultimately, the proposal would help decrease the level of violence in the community by promoting a culture of peace and providing meaningful support for victims and perpetrators.
