Hampton Park wins a thriller

A LATE charge over the concluding ends saw Hampton Park Bowls Club’s division four, section, six get up by nine shots in a thrilling game against Chelsea.
Scores were Hampton Park 14-108 d Chelsea 4-99.
Rink one was the turning point with Gerry Cox, Basil Pope, Graham Slight and skips Geoff Ladner scoring 20 shots to one over the last six ends to win by 13 shots (34-21).
John Scothorne, George Pettitt, Andrew Brandolin and skip Neville Hendrie picked up 10 shots on the last four ends to go down by three (24-27).
Another late charge by Fred McBrian, Ken Cobden, Geoff Ampt and skip Bob Woodfield cut their opponents down to a two-shot win (26-28).
Les Unwin, Lance Davis, Alan Willcock and skip Robert Naismith played tight all day to win by one shot (24-23).
On Saturday Hampton Park 0-83 lost to Noble Park 18-102. In a game that should have been won, the Parkers were very disappointed with their loss to Noble Park. The greens at Noble Park were good and it was a lapse in concentration that proved the downfall.
Dropping 10 shots in two ends proved costly for Fred McBrian, Ken Cobden, Geoff Ampt and skip Bob Woodfield (25-28).
Les Unwin, Lance Davis, Alan Wilcock and skip Robert Naismith could not get into the game and went down by 15 shots (15-30).
The hard work was done to get to within two shots then Pat Moevasa, Basil Pope, Graham Slight and skip Geoff Ladner dropped nine shots in two ends to lose by nine (18-27).
Losing a 5, 4, 6 and 4 spoiled a very good game for Charles Hose, David Hendrie, Andrew Brandolin and skip Neville Hendrie in their two-shot loss (25-27).

Played on 28 October, Hampton Park 4-74 lost to Cranbourne 14-104.
Cranbourne was too good on its green and the Parkers had to settle for points on two rinks.
Werner Melzer, Greg Pentland, Keith McCarthy and skip Rob Woff could not dent their opposition’s attack, going down by 22 shots (13-35).
Pat Moevasa, Rudy Oost, Shirley Burnside and skip Bill Webb got off to a good start and stayed in front all day (26-18).
Another good start enabled Bruce Pointon, Ray Wood, Bob Nicol and skip Ray Leggett to hang on and win by two shots (22-20).
Lino Da Pos, Allan Unwin, Allan March and skip Keith Damon took eight ends to score their first shot, but by then Cranbourne had bolted to a big lead (13-31).
On Saturday, Hampton Park 16-118 d Keysborough 2-93. The Parkers put in another strong home-game performance and was able to answer every challenge to win by 21 shots.
Gerry Cox, Keith McCarthy, George Pettitt and skip Bill Webb won only 10 ends but two big sevens got them over the line by 11 shots (32-21).
Sure and steady was the order of the day for John Scothorne, Greg Pentland, Allan Unwin and skip Robb Woff with a nine-shot win (30-21).
Lino Da Pos, Bill Tannahill, Allan March and skip Bob Nicol scored only multiples in the second half to finish 11 shots up (31-20).
Losing 6 ends in a row in the second half proved to be costly for Bruce Pointon, Eddie Graafsma, Ray Wood and skip Ray Leggett when they went down by just six shots (25-31).

On 24 October Hampton Park 2-90 d Dandenong City 0-70. It was like a big reunion when Dande City came to Hampton Park for this game. Last year they were one team.
Lorna Hayes, Dot Carr, Rob Woff and Shirley Burnside held their lead all day to win by five shots (22-17).
In a very even game, Joyce Cameron, Mavis Kelly, June Damon and skip Mary Hose, faded at the finish to go down by six shots (21-27).
Sheila Scothorne, Jim Westwell, Alma Pope and skip Ann Westwell could not hold on at the end to miss by seven (19-26).
A very good effort by Gail Wilcock, Ellen Smith, Grace Hogan and skip Chris Hendrie with a 28 shot win (38-10).
On 31 October Hampton Park 0-86 lost to Dande. RSL/ Rec 2-105. Some of the ladies struggled at first on the slow green, but got better as the day wore on. On rink eight, Joyce Cameron, Mavis Kelly, June Damon and skip Mary Hose were troubled all day by the opposition (11-31).
Dot Carr, Gwen Clough, Andrew Brandolin and skip Shirley Burnside rallied in the second half to go down by four shots (19-23). A late run by Gail Wilcock, Ellen Smith, Grace Hogan and skip Chris Hendrie missed by just three shots (25-28). A great start and a good finish saw Shiela Scothorne, Geri Graafsma, Alma Pope and skip Ann Westwell win by eight shots (31-23).
