Bowls win hard to bear

CRANBOURNE RSL ‘Bear’ (the club mascot) joined in the celebrations when the division-three pennant team defeated Dandenong Rec RSL by three shots in a thriller at the weekend.
Bear watched the team from the clubhouse, in particular the last couple of ends for the well-deserved 91-88 win.
Results Mal Watkinson 27-19; Greg Dore (bowled superbly) 27-18; Terry Silberer 23-20 and Doug Ambrose’s team down on the day 14-32.
RSL division five was down, but not out.
It had to take second place as players were out sick and on holidays and although fighting hard, went down by 23 shots to Dandenong Club 106-83.
Results: Walter Brennan 32-18; Peter Gibbon 14-37; Bill Frost 15-29 and Barry Burgess (draw) 22 all.
Walter Brennan’s team was the winning rink with John Vowel, Jack Hosie and Brian Biasci, a great effort.
