THE City of Casey won four awards at the Australian Sister Cities Association national conference held at Traralgon last week.
Casey won the four awards from 42 entries submitted by 16 councils.
Young people were to the front with a win in the Youth Achievers section for the Casey Youth Ambassadors (CYA) involvement in the Connolly Games held in Springfield, Ohio last year.
Young people were also heavily involved in Casey Connolly Games Committee’s win in the Best Sports Project.
Casey also won awards for Assistance to a Sister City and the New Affiliation section, involving the Friends of Ermera program and friendship agreement with Ermera in East Timor.
The Connolly Games trip to America by 67 athletes and supporters was acclaimed as highly successful.
The Connolly Games was a return match to the Edwin Flack Games hosted by the City of Casey in 2000.
CYA also won its award for involvement in the tour to America.
The Friends of Ermera group was rewarded for its assistance to Ermera in East Timor.
Assistance included rebuilding kindergartens, provision of learning resources and support for kindergarten teachers.
The program also involved assistance to Casey Schools in the development of friendship links with schools in Ermera.
The group also worked to improve medical services and technical assistance on East Timor.
Casey was also rewarded for creating a new friendship affiliation with Ermera.
