Narre Warren tops on turf

NARRE Warren’s turf-one side downed Dandenong West on Saturday and went into the Christmas break with a three win – three loss ratio.
After winning the toss, John Simpson was sent to the top of the order for the shorter version of the game and soon showed why, scoring a quick 22.
This brought captain-coach Wendell Perumal to the crease to join import, Dean Williams, who was out a few overs later and Dwayne Scott soon followed.
However a valuable 36-run partnership by Perumal and Mark Teeuw steadied the ship.
Teeuw was out lbw for 12 and this brought Vinay Tripathi to the crease and with Perumal put on a handy partnership of 40 odd before the latter was out for 46 off 59 balls.
Bill O’Loughlin, after making a ton in the twos last week, joined Tripathi and together dismantled the Dandy West attack, hitting to all parts and scoring half centuries.
For Tripathi it was his first for the club, 54 off just 49 balls before he skied one in the late overs.
Chris Jarrett then came in and wasted no time, hitting a straight six with the first ball faced and bludgeoned the bowlers for a quick-fire 11 not out. O’Loughlin was excellent with 57 off 35 balls.
Narre Warren compiled a competitive total of 236.
With no Chris Pentland, Simpson took the new ball with Les Brown and both started well with the latter taking a wicket in the first over.
A very consistent performance by all the bowlers and brilliant fielding saw Narre bowl Dandy West out for 160 with Perumal getting 4/19 off 7 overs, Brown 2, Simpson 2 and Steve Woodward, playing his first game in the ones for the year, taking the last.
