A 21-YEAR-old man died in a collision in Berwick on Christmas Day.
The Thornbury resident lost control of his 1994 Ford Falcon at about 2.10am while travelling along the Princes Freeway.
Police said the car left the road and collided with a pylon supporting a highway sign.
The driver died at the scene.
His two passengers, a 23-year-old Glenhuntly man and a 19-year-old Northcote man, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Casey Traffic Management Unit Sergeant Pat McGavigan said the death was the second on Casey roads on Christmas Day.
He said a 26-year-old Blind Bight motorist also died when the car he was driving left the road in Cannons Creek.
“To have two fatals in Casey on Christmas Day is disappointing.
“Both deaths were in single car collisions,” Sgt McGavigan said.
He said local police would continue their increased presence on Casey roads throughout the remainder of the school holiday period.
“We will go even harder now. Drivers have to realise that they are responsible for their action behind the wheel,” he said.
