Love forged in mud

WHILE many gain muddy faces and sore muscles from the Tough Mudder challenge, Carmen Lisson had this, plus something more.
After first coming up with the idea to start a team for the 2012 event, the Berwick resident was approached by a ’colleague’ from Becon Constructions Robson Charlton, who was interested in joining the team.
Ms Lisson agreed, training him along with others to prepare them for the 2012 Tough Mudder event.
Already a fitness instructor, the Berwick resident took the team along to her boot camps to help increase their fitness.
As the date began to appraoch for the 2012 event, training ceased and after getting to know one another, Robson asked Ms Lisson on a date.
Agreeing, the pair began to see one another and are soon to be wed in February this year.
Completing both the 2012 and 2013 Tough Mudder events alongside one another, Ms Lisson agreed the experience strengthened the relationshop between the two.
Ms Lisson said once they began training with each other, the spark between the two was ignited.
“The training leading up to Tough Mudder that he attended brought us even closer together,” the Berwick resident said.
Ms Lisson said the challenge of training for and competing in Tough Mudder gave her the chance to see a side of Robson, which she had never seen before.
“He stayed with us girls and helped us – it was great at building our relationship and seeing another side of him,” Ms Lisson said.
“It was very good bonding for the two of us and for the team as well.”
