Feast of festivities

RESIDENTS have a range of opportunities to celebrate Australia Day at a number of free events in Casey on Saturday.
Community events will be held in Hampton Park, Berwick, Tooradin, Cranbourne East, Doveton and Lynbrook on the day.
City of Casey mayor Amanda Stapledon said Australia Day provided a fantastic occasion for the community to unite as proud Australians, and rejoice in all the things that make the country wonderful.
“Residents are sure to experience a multicultural delight with the host of great activities and events that will be taking place throughout the day,” she said.
“I encourage all Casey residents and their friends to gather together across our municipality and enjoy the terrific community events on offer.”

Australia Day events in Casey
Actively Diverse Celebrations in Doveton will be hosted by the Doveton Eumemmerring Township Association. The free event will feature performances by local artists, food stalls, face painting, community group displays and children’s activities. It will be held at Autumn Place Garden, Paperbark Street, Doveton from 11am to 3pm.

Australia Day celebrations in Berwick will be presented by the Rotary Club of Berwick. The free event will be a celebration featuring Australian performances, children’s activities, a flag raising ceremony, school art display, food stalls, whip-cracking, sack races and an egg-and-spoon competition with prizes.

There will also be CFA, SES and Police displays, a great car and vintage machinery display, wood working display and Cobb and Co. horse and carriage rides. It will be held at Pioneers Park, corner of Peel Street and Lyall Road, Berwick from 10am to 3pm.

Day of Nations is presented by the Hampton Park Progress Association. It is a free event including an Aussie breakfast, multicultural entertainment, face painting, jumping castles, animal farm, show cars and motorbikes and community group displays. It will be held at the Arthur Wren Hall, Stuart Avenue, Hampton Park from 9am to noon.

Passport to Casey’s Cultural Heritage Showcase is a free family event celebrating the rich and diverse cultural heritage in Casey. Enjoy a free sausage sizzle, delicacies of the world, traditional music and dances, drumming, a mini-historical exhibition, art and craft and children’s activities. It will be held at the Balla Balla Community Centre, Berwick-Cranbourne Road, Cranbourne East, from 11am to 4pm.

Sunset Cinema is a free event presented by the Lions Club of Balla Balla. The open air cinema, which will be screening Wreck it Ralph, will be accompanied by a free barbecue (for the first 500 people), as well as live entertainment and activities for the whole family. It will be held at Sawtell’s Inlet, Memorial Island, Tooradin from 6.30 to 11pm.

The Lynbrook Residents Association, in conjunction with the Lynbrook Primary School, will present its third free Moonlight Cinema event on Saturday night on the Lynbrook Primary School oval. Gates will open at 7pm, with the movie – The Wizard of Oz – to start at about 9pm. There will be a barbecue, popcorn, drinks, fairy floss, coffee van and ice-cream van available. Those who attend are urged to bring an FM radio to tune into the sound from the movie.
