IN a thriller, Cranbourne’s turf-one team defended its 310 first-innings total, holding out St Mary’s by one run on Saturday.
With a lot of runs on the board and at the ground where it won the turf-two flag two years ago by a run, Cranbourne made hard work of the win as St. Mary’s kept a lot of wickets in hand.
However due to the tireless bowling of spin king Steve Miller (5/75) and the seamers of Johnathan West (2/39), Cranbourne won, as St Mary’s could not get the required four runs off the last ball.

Bowling this week behind a reasonable total, Cranbourne couldn’t make the early breakthrough and struggled as St. Mary’s ran away with the game.
Ben Hall bowled well in his second spell and was rewarded with three wickets. Lee Murdoch toiled hard for his wicket.

Cranbourne was always going to struggle chasing 343 but gave it a real go and with 10 overs to go were comparatively even on runs.
However this was when Hallam got away.
Best of the bats was promising glove-man Lucas Ligt, with a fluent 57 and was supported by Daniel Parker (38) and Shaun Petrie (35).
Another highlight was Ben Redgen who at number 11 made his highest senior score of 19 not-out.

Cranbourne’s confidence was justified this week as they accounted for St Brigid’s-St Louis’ runs with wickets and overs in hand.
Pick of the batsmen was Tony Ciantar who was not-out overnight and ended up on 78.
With the middle order failing, the tail stood up with Martin Kelly, Andrew Ciantar and Stuart Mills all making valuable scores.

When captain Ben Corrie went down with a knee injury all the fight seemed to go out of the team. Top scorer was Chris Hale with 19.
