Red Cross calls out for more helpers

THE Hallam Red Cross Unit is calling on two fronts with more volunteers needed for next month’s Red Cross Calling campaign.
The annual nation wide fundraiser will start from 1 March and continue right through until the end of the month.
However, with only 10 members currently volunteering their time at the Hallam Unit there will be a lot of doors to be knocked by a small amount of people.
Secretary Betty Keen said several members had retired in the last 12 months and new volunteers were needed to help out.
“Anybody who would like to door knock and ask for donations is welcome,” Ms Keen said.
“Even if it is only one or two streets or for one or to two days throughout the month.”
Ms Keen said Hallam is getting bigger every year and it was hard for current members to visit every house and factory in the suburb.
“All money collected from this appeal by volunteers is used in Victoria. So all donations are very much appreciated,” she said.
More than 150,000 volunteers will knock on doors throughout Australia to ask for support so that Red Cross can help people affected by emergencies.
Anyone who wants more information on Red Cross Calling can contact Betty on 9774 0194.
