School gets a new start, too

By Callan Date
THE start of the school year is an exciting time for most students and staff but for those involved with Casey College, 2007 was a little more special.
The new Narre Warren South school began the year on a high as it opened its doors for the first time and welcomed just over 50 students to the campus.
The school is being run by Independent Colleges Australia (ICA) and according to principal Geoff McLay it has been smooth sailing throughout the first two weeks of operation.
“We have had a great couple of weeks,” Mr McLay said.
“We have four classes from prep to grade six with about 12 children in each class.”
Mr McLay, who has 23 years teaching experience and was most recently acting principal of a Queensland school, said Casey College students had access to a full education program.
“All of our services are in place at the moment. Although our main building is not finished we expect it to be complete by roughly the end of March.”
The school, located on Pound Road and Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road, hopes to steadily increase enrolment and expand to operate year seven and eight classes next year.
The $32 million development will be built in various stages over the next seven years.
“We are still taking enrolments now and the indication is that a lot of parents will be sending their children here for the start of term two when our main building is finished,” he said.
Students are already involved with the wider Casey community and have been involved in swimming lessons at Casey ARC and using some of the facilities at Casey libraries.
