CASEY councillor Paul Richardson wants the council to scrap a weekend away for councillors to plan the city budget.
Cr Richardson moved a motion at Tuesday’s council meeting requesting suitable venues within the city be looked at to host May’s budget discussion.
The weekend away, to allocate funding for the upcoming financial year, is currently scheduled to take place in Mount Eliza on 20 and 21 May.
“We should be looking at venues in Casey. This will save in a reduction of travel costs and a reduction in accommodation,” Cr Richardson said.
He said council chambers could host the weekend and save thousands of dollars in rental costs.
The motion was passed with the report due back to council at the next meeting in a fortnight.
