ENDEAVOUR Hill’s Brianna Behrsin came first in her division in the iconic Puffing Billy Great Train Race last Sunday.
The 13.2 kilometre fun run, which occurred on 5 May, went from Belgrave to Emerald Lake Park, and saw 3000 competitors race against one of Victoria’s most celebrated icons.
The 15-year-old’s time of 60:01 saw her take out the category of fastest female in the under 18s division, a title which she now holds dear.
“It was a really great achievement, I felt,” she said.
“Even though I had done it before, I was really prepared this time.”
Brianna said there was some serious training involved.
“Each weekend on Saturday my dad, sister and I go for a 10 kilometre run,” she said.
“I also usually do three kilometre runs a few times a week and maybe even a hill bike ride if I’ve got time.”
Brianna, a keen fitness enthusiast, said she will definitely compete in the event next year.
“I like the race because there are more hills and more slopes than most races,” she said.
“It was more of a challenge.”
Personal best was the key to Brianna’s race, as she aimed to beat her time from last year.
“I really wanted to crack the hour, however, I was one second over,” the runner said.
Despite the conclusion of the 2013 fun run, there is no time for rest or relaxation for Brianna and her family, who run in different events throughout the year.
“While I have my school cross country coming up, my family and I plan on running the 10 kilometre in the upcoming Run Melbourne event,” she said.
