BERWICK and Cranbourne train stations will soon be shining brighter after an announcement to upgrade lighting.
The new lights will replace the weak yellow lighting that was poorly received by many commuters and labelled as less safe.
The $4 million being used to upgrade the 57 stations will be partly funded through fines paid by Connex.
Public Transport Minister Lynne Kosky said the replacement of the yellow lights with brighter white lighting would increase safety for both rail passengers on the platforms and for train drivers.
“Public transport locations around the world are moving towards the use of white lights because of the safer environment they provide,” Ms Kosky said.
She said research showed people felt yellow lighting potentially discouraged passengers from using train stations at night times.
