THE Berwick Show rolled into town on the weekend and was enjoyed by almost 40,000 people over the two days.
One of the biggest events on the Casey calendar didn’t disappoint with a record crowd attracted to the sights and sounds at Akoonah Park.
Show president Peter Wenn said the 2007 event broke records in terms of attendance and entrants in several animal fields.
“It went great,” he said.
“The Saturday night event was well enjoyed with the fireworks a major highlight.
“The Sampson monster truck show was a big hit too. People were standing 20 deep during each show,” Mr Wenn said.
Mr Wenn said the show continued to grow with realistic forecasts of 100,000 people attending in the next two to three years.
“It will be the second biggest show in Victoria in a few years – if it isn’t already,” he said.
One blight on the day was the lack of parking with several show goers receiving fines for parking their cars illegally.
“We do have some parking problems and I’m currently in negotiations with the City of Casey to work through these issues.
“With the show continuing to grow in numbers we need to work something out for next year,” he said.
Mr Wenn expressed his gratitude towards the organising committee, show volunteers and exhibitors who all made the event such a success.
“They don’t get a lot of recognition and they really all do a great job.”
Narre Warren Senior Sergeant Gerry Hengel said the crowd behaviour was very orderly with no major issues over the two days.
“It was a very well behaved crowd.
“It was a great family weekend that went without incident and we were very happy with the behaviour,” Sen Sgt Hengel said.
He said six notices were issued against people who broke alcohol restrictions.
