STUDENTS across Berwick will be asked if they are okay in the following months, after the R U OK? campaign kicked off in style this week.
The R U OK? suicide prevention campaign was launched at Monash Berwick on Wednesday, with a free breakfast and a ‘question mark’ mascot touring the university campus.
The event is part of the lead-up to national R U OK? Day on 12 September, a day when people are reminded to regularly check in with family and friends.
Monash Union of Berwick Students welfare officer Dani Rothwell said the launch of R U OK? campaign at Monash Berwick was a great success, with more than 30 people attending in support of the cause.
“We really wanted to make it bigger and better than before,” she said.
“I am passionate about mental health and it’s really worthwhile for me to combine my work and my passion.”
Monash Union of Berwick Students president Hayden Devanny was also very pleased with the crowd that gathered for the launch.
“With uni students, mental health can be a big issue and we want to try and break down the stigma,” he said
“I definitely think it’s beneficial and we want to incorporate the intiative across all Monash universities.”
The R U OK? Foundation formed in 2009 and is dedicated to encouraging conversations to prevent suicide and helping people feel in control.
