Star makes sure the beat goes on for Jay

NARRE Warren youngster Jay Bull can be excused for making more noise than most when he beats away at his new drum kit.
Jay’s hero and close friend, rock star Shannon Noll, gave him the Billy Hyde set after the two met when Jay won a competition last year.
The News first met Jay when Take 5 magazine named him as one of five young brave hearts in Australia.
The 11-year-old won that accolade for his long battle with neuroblastoma – a rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer.
But little did he know his life would be given a boost with the kind gesture from Noll.
“Shannon organised for the drum set to come out after he learnt Jay use to practise on pillows,” Jay’s mother, Bronwyn Bull, said.
But the support from the Australian rocker hasn’t stopped with the gift.
“He phones Jay a fair bit. Even when he is overseas he calls up or his mum will call up and have a chat and see how Jay is going,” she said.
Jay is also hitting the right note in other parts of his life with his transition from primary to secondary school earlier this year.
He is making new friends at Eumemmerring College’s Fountain Gate campus and is still battling away at the dreaded disease.
“The support Jay gets from Shannon is incredible. He is so inspired by what he does and the time he takes to make Jay feel special,” Ms Bull said.
