Hallam’s hurt locker

POLICE evacuated the scene of a drive-by shooting at a Hallam gym this morning where bombs were discovered, just hours after a similar shooting in Dandenong.

Multiple bullets were fired into Nitro Gym overnight and two explosive devices were found inside, forcing police to close the Princes Highway between the South Gippsland Freeway and Hallam Road while the bomb squad went in.
Police are also investigating a separate drive-by attack at a Dandenong tattoo studio which occurred about 4am today (Monday).
More than 20 shots were fired into a roller shutter door protecting the Nitro Ink shopfront on Gladstone Road.
Police believe the incidents are linked to recent motorcycle gang shootings in Clayton South and Dandenong where military-style weapons were used.
No one was injured in the attacks but police are concerned the use of high-powered weaponry could still lead to innocent deaths.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Steve Fontana urged anyone with knowledge of the weapons to come forward.
“We are not going to stand by and let bikies bring firearms and violence into our community and place innocent people and police at risk,” he said.
“We do not want feuding motorcycle gangs on our streets creating fear and thinking they can take the law into their own hands.”
Anyone with information about the incidents is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au
