MONASH University’s Berwick students will be exercising both mind and body now that a full-scale gym has opened at the campus.
The new fitness centre is three times bigger than the previous set-up with modern equipment including free weights, dumbbells and benches available for use.
Monash Union of Berwick Students (MUBS) sports officer Steve Corney said the reaction since the official opening last week had been very encouraging.
“We had 22 people sign up on the first day and it has been steady since then,” he said.
The qualified personal trainer said he was hoping to establish personal fitness classes for students throughout the year.
“What I’ve tried to do is streamline the gym so that you can get a full body workout from the equipment available,” he said.
“I also want to try and start up a girls-only class once a week for those who may be intimidated by training with men.”
He said the gym was partly subsidised by MUBS with the prices well under the cost at a public gym.
“Students can pay $15 a month to use it or if they buy a community card they use it for free,” he said.
The gym is only for Monash University students.
