TEE-OFF was at 12.30 sharp for last month’s 2013 Mayoral Shield Charity Golf Day.
Many local businesspeople, who also fancy themselves as golfers, turned out to the event for a sun-filled day on the Cranbourne Golf Club greens along with the opportunity to get to know other like-minded employers.
The annual event, held this year on Friday 29 November and organised by the Rotary Clubs of Narre Warren and Endeavour Hills, included an 18-hole round of golf for each participant, on-course drinks and dinner afterwards.
Rotary Club of Narre Warren President Phillip McMillan said one of the most important parts of the day was giving Casey businessmen and women a chance to network with each other.
“People are always keen to come along because it brings together local businesses,” he said.
“The golf day is aimed at local businesses. People get the chance to pick out clients and entertain them on the golf course,” he said.
“It cements relationships further than business too.”
The event was supported by the City of Casey and attended by Mayor Geoff Ablett and Deputy Mayor Amanda Stapledon, who also recapped the day over dinner. Several trophies were also awarded for the best-performing golfers on the day, in addition to the raffle and spinning wheel prize winners.
Mayor Ablett was on hand to present the winners with trophies for the men’s and women’s competitions. Prizes were also given out for the longest drive and nearest to the pin, with all trophies again donated by Garrleigh Trophies in Hallam.
Rotary Club of Endeavour Hills is involved with Disaster Aid and will use donations from the charity day to organize additional support for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
“It was a great opportunity for us to promote Rotary and show people what we do,” Mr McMillan said.
“We gave an update on our current projects including the running track in Narre Warren.
“We also used the event as a chance to raise money for the typhoon victims in the Philippines and help supply them with everything they need to survive.”
Mr McMillan said events like the golf day not only enabled Rotary to give a hand to those in need but also to sponsor the leaders of the future through youth leadership programs.
