Caution urged after chemical spill

EMERGENCY CFA crews are attending to a hazardous chemicals leak in Hallam this morning.
Nine CFA trucks were on scene at the Wedgewood Road warehouse after a leak was discovered among container drums, with an official warning issued by the CFA just after 9am.
The Environment Protection Authority and the Victorian Workcover Authority have also been notified.
A CFA State Control Centre spokesperson could not specify the leaked chemical but said a scientific officer was on-site where it was thought 30 to 60 litres of the product had been spilt.
The spokesperson said the chemical leak needed to be neutralised with soil and predicted the clean-up would take two to three hours.
The CFA have advised the public that there is currently no threat to the community, but people should continue to stay informed and monitor conditions.
If anyone experiences any symptoms that may be due to exposure, seek medical advice or call ‘Nurse on Call’ on 1300 606 024.
